What a sight - they may be small in stature but they sure put on a BIG show.

The famous Dash is back again. And this year there's THREE DIVISIONS! Last year the race attracted 72 racers and almost 2,000 people cheering them on. Scores of scurrying sausage dogs in a heart-stopping race for glory. It's no wonder they call it the Melbourne Cup of dog racing.

SCHEDULE - SUNDAY 10 JUNE, 2018

9:15am          Dog's Breakfast on the Village Green, Corner Bank and Sackville Streets
Dogs of all breeds are welcome to join in the fun and games on the Village Green. Sausage sizzle, coffee carts and the annual class photo of dogs and owners. And let's not forget the fashion on the field! There's always a few stylish pups in interesting attire.

10:15am         Dog's Parade down Sackville Street to Port Fairy Cricket Oval
Strut your stuff down the main street to the racing venue. A final (or first!) chance for pups to warm-up before the main event.

11:00am          Dachshund Dash, Race track, Avery's Paddock,  Port Fairy Cricket Oval, Campbell Street
There's more food and coffee cart, but it's the dogs that the crowds come for. It's a flurry of intense action as the two main races (under 2's, over 2's and now a Veterans race) take place, followed by the fun and frivilous obstacle races and other categories. Who will take the title the crown this year?

Dachshund Dash prizes

In addition to the glory, the winning Dachshunds in each age category receives an A4 framed portrait of themselves by talented local artist Jimmi Buscombe.  Jimmi works from photos to create incredibly life-like illustrations of animals and pets, the perfect way for your champion pooch to be immortalised in art.
Check out Virgil, one of last year's winners!

Recap of 2017

Wow! What a day!  It was the biggest race yet! Thanks to all the mini racers...all 73 of you! And to all the spectators who cheered them on. And of course, to our wonderful volunteers and supporters who make the whole thing happen. The beautiful pics below are by Emily Blissland from ABC South West.

It started as a chilly but clear morning with lots of dew on the track. The dog's breakfast was a fun pre-race event with people gathering to  was some light drizzle just before the race. The winning 'Sausage Dog' in the Over 2 years was Daisy, the long, lean, running machine. This dog has won 4 of 6 races over the last 6 years. Quite the record! Can she be beaten in 2018?
