Did you know that just outside Port Fairy is Australia’s first commercial wind farm? Opened in 2001, the site was selected as being ‘close to perfect’ with strong prevailing winds blowing off the Southern Ocean. Your tour guide Tim has over 18 years’ of wind energy knowledge to share. He will show you around the base of the farm’s 81m towers and explain how the farm generates enough energy to power 10,000 Victorian homes every year.

Outdoor Workshop: Beach Detectives

Become a family of beach detectives! Investigate the articles that wash up and search for seaweed, shells, crabs and other interesting and sometimes unexpected specimens we happen to find. Once you bag the treasures, you’ll identify the specimens, where they’ve come from and what they might be doing here in Port Fairy. Dress warm, bring a magnifying glass (if you have one) and small bucket. This session is led by Port Fairy resident, botanist, teacher and writer, John Millar.
