Opening night talk and drinks, Sat 8 June 5-6pm
Exhibition open every festival night from 4:30pm
Coffin Sally, 33 Sackville St
In a first for regional Victoria, the Melbourne Collage Assembly get out of the city for an exclusive exhibition right here in Port Fairy. The freshly formed group (est 2018) demonstrate the infinite possibilities of the collage art medium in the stripped-back always-warming surrounds of Coffin Sally.
Collage is a visual art form that creates new narratives from existing and hand made materials. From Picasso to the Buzzcocks, collage’s influence has been present in Twentieth Century art movements and subcultures; yet despite its use in Cubism to Post Modernism, it remains a subversive and underground art form. The act of dissecting images by hand to reassemble, and interpret new meanings is a rebellion to the constant stream of images and their signals, that are visually imposed on us.
Melbourne Collage Assembly was founded by Kieran Madden & Simone Lukic and includes a growing list of artists (see below). While in its infancy, members are established and emerging collage artists who have exhibited and published their work across the globe. The aim of MCA is to bring together Melbourne based collage artists to demonstrate the awesome possibilities of medium, and showcase the work of Australian collage artists. We can’t wait for you to check them out!
Meet the artists, have a drink, eat some fine pizza, buy some art or hang by the fire for a night of layered goodness..
This exhibition runs till Sunday 30 June.
