ABOUT THE AUSTRALIAN WELSH MALE CHOIR
The Australian Welsh Male Choir was formed in 1974 as the Frankston Welsh Male Choir later changing its name to the current name.
In 1983 the choir was invited to join the Association of Welsh Choirs and became the first choir outside Wales to be accorded this honour. The following year the choir toured the United Kingdom where it became the first choir outside Wales to sing at the “1,000 Voice Festival” at the Royal Albert Hall in London.
The choir again represented Australia in 1,000 voice massed choir events in the UK in 1988, 2000 and 2004 and has been invited to take part in the massed choir event again in 2012, one of only two international choirs invited.
The choir has twice toured Tasmania, and toured New Zealand in 2008, singing many concerts to raise money for charity. They have sung in the Sydney Opera House on two occasions, in 2005 and 2007.
Their repertoire includes a wide variety of music including, of course, much loved traditional Welsh songs.
The Australian Welsh Male Choir will perform in Port Fairy on Sunday 12th June 2011 as part of the Port Fairy Winter Weekend Festival. Their concert will be held in the St. John’s Anglican Church starting at 2pm.
