Competition - "A Smorgasbord of Port Fairy Art"
As part of the August Winter Weekend in Port Fairy the Whale Bone Gallery will be staging a special exhibition by a collective of 20 local artists. Each artist has been invited to paint, on a 40 x 30 cm canvas, their interpretation of an image selected from a range of photographs taken of some iconic Port Fairy scenes.
When the twenty finished paintings have been returned by the artists they will be assembled into a collage and mounted, in a 5 x 4 matrix, at the Whale Bone Gallery in an arrangement determined by one of the gallery's members who will effectively serve as the judge for an associated competition surrounding the collage.
Members of the public are encouraged to have their say in how the paintings should best be assembled in order to create the most pleasing collage to the eye. They can do this by submitting an entry form laying out the equivalent photos (depicted above) in their preferred arrangement.
The finished paintings will be assembled by the judge on Thursday 4th August 2011 and the final collage opened to the public on the afternoon of Friday 5th August and then throughout the ensuing weekend.
The person whose entry best matches the judge's arrangement will win a photograph taken of the winning paintings as they are assembled on the Gallery wall.
